Bet you would never guess that these two gorgeous boys were once born as ferals and living in a warehouse off our Loop amongst a stack of wood with dangers lurking from every corner.
Happily, their rescue story also involves two sisters and the mama cat. However, this rescue story is being written today only because these kits were being cared for by two of the employees at the warehouse. With their help, the mama cat and four 4-week old kittens were trapped within 24-hours and safe and secure with foster families.
It wasn’t long after the kittens were socialized and mama had been spayed and was being “re-socialized” that they were all adopted by wonderful families. I am so blessed to have been able to take part in the rescue of these kitties and to meet such wonderful and caring people in the process.

Evelyn and her husband first met Micky and Tiger at one of our adopt-a-thons and fell in love. Shortly thereafter, Tiger and Micky were off to their new and wonderful home complete with every kitten’s dream – a house full of toys, scratch posts, nutritious food and two wonderful humans who adore them.
Although this story is a happy tail, more often than not life isn’t so happy for abandoned cats. It is surmised that this mama cat was dumped simply because the “owner” knew she was pregnant.
Please do not abandon your animals. Do the right thing and spay/neuter your pet. If you need assistance, contact the humane agency in your area for any low cost spay-neuter clinics and stop the cycle of unwanted animals from being born only to suffer and die needlessly.
We’re very happy to report that Tiger, Micky, Mama and two sisters have all been spayed or neutered helping to reduce the cycle of unwanted kittens that suffer needlessly.

This poor little ginger kitten sure did get off to a rough start. Pumkin is living proof that outdoor kittens do not have a high rate of survival and often suffer needlessly. The only reason Pumkin survived his awful ordeal with a car motor is because of a wonderful O’Malley volunteer and foster.
Pumkin now shares his home with several cats including another rescued kitty named Buster and his sleeping buddy, a plump and darling Beagle named Joey.

Furthermore, Pumpkin will never again have to worry about car engines or other dangers while outdoors because his owner constructed a Houdini cat fence. For more information about this wonderful cat-friendly fencing, please visit http://www.purrfectfence.com/

The little black kitty is Salem, and isn't she darling?! She is so lucky to be spoiled by Danielle! Her gorgeous friend is Tiger Lilly.

Cats and Kittens Displaced by Hurricane Rita: Autumn and Cyril
These adorable kitties were all rescued from the after effects of Hurricane Rita. Many people evacuated to Nacogdoches where the employees of the Animal Shelter and volunteers took them in and sheltered them at the Nacogdoches Exposition Center. Sadly, several of the cats had kittens during this time and were then left behind by the people who evacuated them!
Happily, every cat or kitten featured here were adopted and now have permanent homes to call their own. Furthermore, each of these kitties have been spayed or neutered and they will not be adding to the animal overpopulation crisis.

This adorable mama not only had kittens during the storm but also agreed to nurse a newborn kitten that was abandoned during the storm!
Toni met Cyril at one of our adopt-a-thons at Discovery Realm and could not resist his face. She kept talking about adopting his mama, Autumn, but wasn’t sure that her other cats and dogs would ever forgive her. After just a few short weeks, Toni visited us at another adopt-a-thon and decided Autumn just had to go home with her. She has reported that Autumn and her other animals are doing great and as you can see here, Cyril has grown into quite a handsome young man!

This pair of adorable Ragdoll Siamese kitties were once feral kittens rescued from a colony that had over 100 cats in it before O’Malley stepped in to help.
Starsky was so weak that he had to be force fed with a bottle and it was feared that he would not make it. He also had one of the worst eye infections we’ve ever treated. In fact, Debbie, their new mom, had to administer eye ointment to both eyes for over a month!

Hutch was quite a bit feistier but he, too, had a bad eye infection and was severely malnourished. Even though Hutch is a bit larger even today than Starsky, Starsky has made great strides in catching up to Hutch! In fact, its very difficult to tell these two handsome boys apart now and they are inseparable.
